Empty Zip files

Windows users and empty zip files

Last updated on 17 Dec, 2025

An empty zip file can mean that your download was interrupted or corrupted. First, it’s best to re-download and unzip again.

Windows users:

Recent changes to Windows security have affected how some unzipped files display.

Some users have reported empty zip files — or only see a readme file — after extracting.

If you are a Windows user and this happens to you, then we suggest using an alternative unzip/extractor app like WinRAR, available for free here.
